Fade to Grey creature Mix

Hace una semana que llevo trabajando en la remezcla y el vídeo de esta canción y por pura serendipia hace un par de días que me llegan a través de Facebook unos anuncios sobre el documental de Netflix: “Blitzed”.  Lo he visto y corrobora la opinión que siempre tuve sobre este tema. Los 80 (los nuestros) arrancan ahí.

Steve no tenia una gran voz, tampoco cantaba especialmente bien, sin embargo su personalidad y su concepto sobre música y moda fueron detonantes de un movimiento que acabaría finiquitando el punk y ejerciendo una importante influencia en todo lo que estaba por llegar. 

Era justo el año 1980 cuando se publica el primer disco de Visage. Bendecido por Bowie junto a otros asiduos al Blitz Club para aparecer en el icónico vídeo “Ashes to Ashes” se anima a iniciar el proyecto Visage arropado por músicos como el guitarrista de los Banshees (John McGeoch), gente de Ultravox, Magazine y de la Tubeway Army de Gary Numan (Midge Ure, Billy Currie. Dave Formula, Barry Adamson, Robin Simon, etc.) y un batería hiperventilado (Rusty Egan). Con estas “bestias” crea un par de LP’s que ya han quedado en la memoria de todos nosotros y la canción que ahora me he atrevido (por fin) a remezclar es una de las mas representativas de esa época. Cuentan las malas lenguas que incluso el bajista Adam Clayton de U2 se inspiró en la linea de bajos de este tema para hacer la apertura del ‘New Year’s Day’ (personalmente no acabo de verlo…pero bueno).

No he querido transformar esta mezcla en una de las tantas que ya existen (me parecen en su mayoría un horror). He intentando respetar al máximo la estructura, modificando solo el final eliminando la batería y resaltando el violín porque me parecía que le añadía un plus dramático (que me encanta), retocando ligeramente el sonido, la posición de los instrumentos y dando un poco mas de presencia a la voz de Steve.

No he tardado mas de 2 días en remezclar la canción. Como por arte de magia me ha sido muy fácil. Me ha costado mucho mas reconstruir el vídeo, pero creo que merece la pena.


I've been working on the remix and video of this song for a week and out of sheer serendipity a couple of days ago I received some announcements on Facebook about the Netflix documentary: “Blitzed”. I have seen it and it corroborates the opinion that I always had on this subject. The 80 (ours) start there. 

Steve did not have a great voice, nor did he sing particularly well, however his personality and his concept of music and fashion were the trigger for a movement that would end up ending punk and exerting an important influence on everything that was to come. 

It was just the year 1980 when Visage's first album was released. Blessed by Bowie along with other regulars at the Blitz Club to appear in the iconic video "Ashes to Ashes", he is encouraged to start the Visage project supported by musicians such as the guitarist of the Banshees (John McGeoch), people from Ultravox, Magazine and the Gary Numan's Tubeway Army (Midge Ure, Billy Currie. Dave Formula, Barry Adamson, Robin Simon, etc.) and a hyperventilating drummer (Rusty Egan). With these "beasts" he creates a couple of LP's that have already remained in the memory of all of us and the song that I have now dared (finally) to remix is one of the most representative of that time. Gossips say that even U2's bassist Adam Clayton was inspired by the bass line of this song to make the opening of 'New Year's Day' (I personally haven't quite seen it... but hey).


I have not wanted to transform this mix into one of the many that already exist (most of them seem horrible to me). I have tried to respect the structure as much as possible, modifying only the ending, eliminating the drums and highlighting the violin because it seemed to me that it added a dramatic plus (which I love), slightly retouching the sound, the position of the instruments and giving a little more presence to Steve's voice.

It hasn't taken me more than 2 days to remix the song. As if by magic it has been very easy for me. It cost me much more to reconstruct the video, but I think it's worth it.
